Paper Crafting World Blogaversary Blog Hop

Welcome to Paper Crafting World (http://www.papercraftingworld.com) and Cooking With Cricut’s (http://www.cookingwithcricut.com) Blogaversary Blog Hop!  Our Design Teams are so excited to bring you a two-day hop that focuses on projects honoring a second anniversary…..cloth, crystal and or glass.

 My project for the bloghop is a little screen. I cut the gothic arches using my Cricut Expression and SCAL2. The Birdcage is a cutting file from Paper Crafting World and I sized it to fit inside the centre screen. I cut two arches with the centres removed for the centre panel and added two layers of acetate with the cage sandwiched between them. I then fixed the two arches together on top of and behind the acetate sandwich to make a clear window! Glossy Accents makes a wonderful glue for acetate! 

For the other two panels, I cut smaller arches and two frames for each piece. I glued the frames together to make the edges a bit deeper. For all of the frames, I gave the edges a vintage look by inking them with vintage photo distress ink DTP then distress embossing ink and clear embossing powder. The frames have a textured look to them which is slightly rusty looking. 

For the backgrounds of the side arches, I inked the panels with worn lipstick, faded jeans and chipped sapphire distress inks then stamped the sentiments with archival ink. I cut acetate pieces to fit the side panels and stamped the bird images on the acetate with Stazon ink. 

The flowers were cut using spiral cutting files on the cricut and the leaf swirls are also from the birdcage cutting file. I spritzed the leaves and flowers with green and gold mist sprays to give them some sparkle! 

The sentiment on the centre panel was stamped on cardstock which had been coloured using the same inks as in the side panels and cut out with deckle edging scissors.

All of the stamps are from Stampers Anonymous - Tim Holtz sets.

Mothers Day

This is the card I made for my Mum for Mother's Day last Sunday. It is a double sliding card and took ages to sort out the mechanism. I got the idea from a You Tube video here

The flowers and leaves were cut using the Cricut Expression and I cut the base card using the Black Cat after I did the cutting design on the Funtime software.

The butterfly image is a Tanda stamp and the sentiment is a Darkroom Door stamp.

This is the card when it is opened out.
I stamped swirls on the edges of the card and used a stamp from Montarga for the sentiment on the inside.

Note that the butterfly moves from one side to the other when it is opened out!



Had great fun making the card, so must do some more so I don't forget how to do it!!!

A Couple of Cards

These two cards were inspired by the on-line classes I did in April with Tim Holtz. I really loved the effects from blending the distress inks on the card then stamping over that.







Another really exciting piece of news is that Tim Holtz is going to do some classes in Australia and I am going to one in Sydney in June! Can't wait!

Spring Flower Garden Challenge

Over at the PWC weekly challenge this week, the theme is Spring Flower Garden!

For this card, I used the birdcage and flowers cutting file, which can be found here. To make the card, I created a shadow of the birdcage using SCAL2 and welded two shadow shapes together for the card base. I then cut the actual birdcage in brown card that I covered with vintage paper distress ink then put clear embossing powder over that and heated it. I then rubbed a dark green inkpad over that to give it a rusty sort of finish.

The flowers were cut from  a First Edition Paper set called Hideaway then inked on the edges to give some depth of colour. The card, birdcage and flowers were all cut on the Cricut using SCAL2.

I embossed the leaves and swirl with the Cuttlebug using the D'vine Swirls folder and cut the tag using a Spellbinders Fancy Tags die. The sentiment is from a Gina K set - All Occasion Tags.

PCW Mothers Day Challenge Reminder

This is a little reminder post for the PCW Mother's Day Challenge that is currently running here.

For this card, I made a side-opening base card and layered it with white cardstock that I embossed with the Swiss Dots folder in the Cuttlebug and made a fancy edge with scissors.  I wrapped this with a fancy ribbon and attached to the card base.

The image is the Cristel Bear holding flowers digi image from Paper Crafting World and I coloured her using copic markers.

The sentiment is stamped on cardstock then cut and embossed using a Spellbinders Labels die using Vintage Photo Distress ink, which I also used around the edge of the die cut before removing it from the die. I layered this on a larger labels die cut and embossed from a bronze coloured cardstock.

The sentiment stamp is by Montarga.

Family Easter Eggs

I meant to post this some time ago - at Easter, but with travel and other things, it slipped my mind until today.

These are the Easter Eggs I made using svg files from SVG Cuts. I made one for everyone in the family, including little Eilidh - who had an easter bunny in hers instead of sweets because she is a little young to be eating chocolate!

I did the labels with the Black Cat and Funtime software. I printed the words with a gold pen in the cutting head instead of a blade housing, then I cut them out. I had not done this before and was very pleased with the result, so will be doing more of this, methinks!

I had a lot of fun making these!

Terrific Tuesday Die Cut or Stamp Challenge - Mother's Day

The theme for the Terrific Tuesday Die Cut or Stamp Challenge over at Paper Crafting World this week is Mother's Day, which is coming up very soon!

For this card, I chose the Basket with Flowers cutting file, which I made into a card using SCAL2. I welded together two of the base basket shapes and cut them, then cut another basket shape for the front of the card. I added texture to the basket and flowers by running them through the Cuttlebug using various folders. I also edged the various cut shapes with distress inks to make then stand out!

The stamp is from Montarga, a local company based in Christchurch, NZ.
