A Proud Moment

Last week, on April 15th, we took my mother to Timaru to be presented with a special medal. Last year, the public were asked to nominate people for New Zealander of the Year awards. Over 400 people were nominated for these awards. Mum, Joyce Bush, was nominated by a person from the Grey Power organisation in Ashburton for her contributions to Girl Guides and Basketball  (over 50 years to each organisation) as well as contributions to the Grey Power organisation.

Three people from Ashburton and two people from Timaru were presented with medals in recognition of their contributions, being accorded Local Hero status in the New Zealander of the Year awards. 150 Local Hero Awards were presented throughout the country. Further information about the Local Heroes Awards can be found here.
